The “strong community identity” of a parish primary school has been hailed as part of an inspection process.

St Peter’s School was described as having a "warm, secure learning environment" following the visit by independent inspectors, which formed part of the Jersey Schools Review Framework.

Inspectors observed lessons, examined school policies and improvement plans and considered the responses to staff and parental surveys during their three-day visit to the school in November.

The report produced after the inspection concluded that "relationships between pupils and staff are a significant strength and form the bedrock of the warm, secure learning environment at St Peter’s".

It continued: "Pupils and staff are rightly proud of their village school and its strong community identity.

"Pupils enjoy school, they behave well exhibiting positive attitudes and increasingly good levels of attendance."

Nasima Rashid, who became Headteacher at the school in September 2022, was said to have "worked tirelessly bringing in improvements and developing a clear vision for the school".

The report added: "She recognises what needs to be done to bring about further sustained improvement and has already introduced some effective changes."

Recommendations from the report included work to achieve better breadth and balance to the curriculum, as well as to develop more systematic monitoring of how the curriculum is implemented.

Ms Rashid said: "Recognition of the effective promotion of our children's personal development and their consistent progress is a very important validation of the school community's work – we are lucky to have such engaging children, so well supported by their parents and families.

"The school review was a rigorous process, I'm grateful to the team for their considered recommendations and look forward to building further on our current progress.”

St Peter's School has just over 200 pupils between the ages of three and 11.

The review framework involves inspections of all government schools every three years, with reports published on the gov.je website.
