Our Eco Team took part in the "Wild About Jersey" Eco Active school event last week. This was a whole day event where they had to think how they could improve our school environment. Their enthusiasm and involvement was fantastic and they were a credit to our school. They discussed several ideas from their own school research which they then presented to their peers - about 100 in total. These are some of their thoughts and ideas.......
‘We learnt how to improve our outdoor school environment and what else we could do to attract more wildlife . We could do this by making more bug houses, putting in an owl box and more bat boxes as well as a bird nesting box with a webcam.'
‘I think we should have a fire pit in a Forest School area.'
'We learnt how to attract more wildlife by building more bug houses and planting plants that they like. Also we looked at samples of soil and found out that that there are good bugs in the ground that we can’t see as well as good bugs in our body which help us to stay healthy and survive.'
'To help our environment and improve our outdoor learning we could have an outdoor amphitheatre which could have a fire pit in it.'
'I think we should have another bug house as we want more insects in our grounds.'
'I think we need to make better use of our big spaces around the school.'
Each school who went along was presented with a set of our beautiful new wildlife signs. Created in partnership with Jersey Biodiversity Centre these signs will help our pupils identify common things they might find in their school grounds.
